SognCenter: D-II Video Game? A Great Idea

Growing up, Augustana College held a special place in my heart as a sports fan.  I would attend football games and watch Eric DeGraff pass to Matt Holmlund at Howard Wood Field.  I'd go to the Augustana basketball double-headers to see the "Augie-Doggy" dunk at half-time while Andrea Seefeldt or Matt Wilber led their team to successful seasons.

After I got home from these sporting events though, I'd want to play as them on the computer or N64.  EA Sports, however, only let me play as D-I teams.

After all, the money is in the bigger universities, and the fan base for a D-II school is much too small to waste time and effort on NCAA Football 2000-Division II.

Yet, I'd venture to say that a D-II video game would be one of the sweetest things to hit the game racks.

How often are you given the opportunity to attend a game at the University of Oregon or North Carolina?

These are once in a lifetime games, while attending a game at a local D-II college is more affordable, and often more entertaining.

EA Sports has, in recent years, began putting D-I FCS and D-IAA schools into their football and basketball games, which is a start, but in an industry that in 2004 brought in over seven billion dollars, the risk of putting one D-II game on the shelves isn't too great.

How many students would simulate the upcoming game between the University of Minnesota-Duluth and Augustana College or that heartbreaking loss during last year's basketball season to St. Cloud State?

My guess is the Heritage House's pregame tailgates would host one or two NCAA Football 2011-Division II tournaments throughout the year.

I'm tired of winning National Championships for Nebraska or standing atop the March Madness Brackets at Duke.

I want to throw 25 touchdowns a year with sophomore Josh Hanson or put up a triple-double with senior Adam Peterka.
