Intramural coordinator Rachel Amble is in her fourth year serving on the Recreational Services staff at Augustana.

Rachel Amble, a life-long resident of Sioux Falls, is serving her fourth year as Augustana's Intramural Coordinator. Amble graduated from Augustana in 2007 with a degree in business administration.

As a student, she participated in the work-study program at Augustana's Elmen Center and was an avid participant in intramurals. Because she fell in love with the atmosphere of the Elmen Center, Amble decided to return to Augustana after graduation as intramural coordinator.

Amble carries out all of the behind-the-scenes work that makes Augustana's intramural program so strong.

"My responsibilities change depending on the time of year," Amble said.

Amble spends her summers preparing for the start of the next school year by setting up schedules for tournaments and tentative sign-up dates, among other necessities.

Once the school year starts, Amble is in charge of making sure everything runs smoothly, seeing to it that students show up for activities and keeping participation high.

"I have a really great staff that helps me with scheduling and getting everything together," Amble said.

The atmosphere that comes with working on a tight-knit college campus allows Amble the ability to create strong relationships with the students.

"Every year there is a new batch of freshmen that I get to work with and mentor," Amble said. "I get to learn about them and their goals in life, and I help them to achieve those goals."

Amble's time at the Elmen has been successful, as shown by the achievement of a 70 percent student participation goal last year. Amble continues working to maintain that percentage.

"We have a really good program for the area," Amble said. "We are working to get as many students involved as we possibly can."

Though intramurals are winding down for the semester, intramurals will pick back up this January with activities such as Walleyball and Three-on-Three Basketball.
