During his visit, Senator Tim Johnson also took the time to sit down with President Rob Oliver about federal aid to students.

Oliver presented changes to the presidential program that included cutting the year-round Pell grants and Pell grants for graduate students in order to provide more funding for regular students.

"It's obscene how much money is being left on the table when we have one of the lowest tax rates in the world," Johnson said.

Pell grants are federally funded awards from the U.S. Department of Education that are geared toward lower-income students. Approximately 24 percent of South Dakota college students receive Pell Grants.

"Augustana has a reputation for a being a place where rich kids go, but if you look at their profile, they're not that much different than a state student," Johnson said.
